Happy Halloween!
Emily had her 1 year checkup this afternoon. Here are her stats:
Height- 28 inches (25%) She’s a shorty!
Weight- 21lbs (65%) This was a shock because she’s never been above the 50th percentile!
Head circumference- 18inches (90%). Big noggin for a little lady!
The pediatrician was very helpful in calming my recent concerns about Emily being an unreliable eater- it seems like she wants to eat only when SHE wants to, and it’s hard to tell exactly what it is that she’d like to eat. If you offer the wrong type of food, she gets disgusted with the whole idea of a meal and won’t eat anything! Dr Y said that if a toddler eats one good, solid meal a day, that is a victory. She said not to stress out over it and that this is a funny time for kids- they are learning about asserting their independence and want to let you know they will eat on THEIR terms (as if I needed reminding!) So, I feel better because usually Emmy will eat a good breakfast and lunch...dinner is sometimes harder to get down. Plus, her weight is showing that she’s definitely growing, so evidently she is getting enough to eat.
We talked about Emily’s Middle of the Night (MOTN) bottle too. Dr Y says it has to go! (Wonder if Dr Y would mind me bringing Emily over tonight when her bottle isn’t as full as she’d like it? haha!) She recommended that we phase is out using the behavior modification method we used when we got rid of the 3am nursing- just giving her a little less every night until finally we don’t give anything. I am PRAYING that Emily does as well with giving this up as she did with the 3am nursing- on the night that she was supposed to get nothing at all she didn’t even wake up, so there were no tears and no inconsolable baby (or mommy!)
Last, Emmy got her shots. This was quite a bad event this time as she got 4 shots AND had her finger pricked for a hemoglobin and lead test. Poor girl! She got her MMR, varicella (chicken pox), Hep A and flu shot. When she got her finger pricked she was a little startled but was ok, until the nurse had to squeeze the finger to get the blood out. After that (and the subsequent 4 shots) she was crying harder than she ever has. Literally. It was so so sad and I felt horrible for her! She calmed down quickly though and is now upstairs napping. Or jumping in her bed....not sure if the nap has actually started yet!
